Devouring A Book

Books, Book Recommendations, Book Lists and Book Joy!

ABOUT

Hi, I’m Megan!

Welcome to Devouring a Book. I am so glad you are here. Reading has been my favorite outlet since I can remember. Growing up, I was never without a book or something to read. I would read the cereal boxes, shampoo bottles, “funny pages”, magazines, anything that had words – I would devour it (hence the name of this blog). I read Nancy Drew books, Lurlene McDaniel novels, Harry Potter and more.

In High School I didn’t mind reading the assigned books but I still would find myself checking out “pleasure reads” at the local library to read in my down time – if that ever happened. I was the editor-in-chief of our school’s literary magazine, was the president of Spanish Club, did studio dance and always had a job. Finding time to read, and keep a social life was always tough but somehow I don’t think I missed out on either.

Fast forwarding through the blurry college years brings us to my current reading life. I am a working mom of 2. I just finished my MBA and was finding myself with more free time than I have ever been used to having. I occasionally binge television shows with my husband, but the majority of my non working/cleaning/momming time is spent reading. I am part of a local book club, love meeting new friends on bookstagram, go book thrifting like it’s my job and am on the Board of Directors for our local library’s non-profit, non-partisan organization that works to improve and promote public library services.

My goal of this site is to provide you with my honest book reviews, lists (who doesn’t love lists?), and other content I think book friends would enjoy.

Thanks for being here – let’s get to reading!

Hi friends, I'm Megan! I am happiest with my nose in a book, love recommending great reads and am addicted to finding my next favorite book. My puns are always intended.

I have not posted on my feed in the longest time. I have not posted on my feed in the longest time. My life flipped upside down over the past few months and I haven’t felt like sharing about my life nor have I been able to read. I haven’t finished a book since February of this year. Today, the sunrise over the Atlantic reminded me that no matter what we go through, the sun is going to rise and will keep rising. Every day we get to choose to show up, to do what makes us happy, to be who we want to be, to choose positivity, to read a new book, to surround ourselves with people who feel like sunshine… and sure the sun will set… but boy does it rise.

Here’s to hoping I can finish this already engrossing book.

I hope you’re all hanging in there and enjoying your own sunrises 💞
I get to wake up and see some of my beautiful book I get to wake up and see some of my beautiful books every morning ☺️. My other shelf is in my office but it’s neat having my books spread all over my home.
When I travel for work I love to look at what ever When I travel for work I love to look at what everyone else is reading. I’m currently reading The Perfect Marriage and a guy on the ✈️ I was on asked me if it was non fiction or fiction. I told him it’s fiction but it wouldn’t surprise me if this same plot was non fiction somewhere in the world. His answer was.. “i doubt it - there is no such thing as a perfect marriage”. 😆😆 cracked me up!

Talking about books with strangers is one of my favorite things - what about you?!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Shout out to @kirstenpu Happy Valentine’s Day!

Shout out to @kirstenpursell and @emilybookedup as I was their giveaway winner and received a signed copy of Long Enough to Love You along with a bookmark and pen. I read this book in 2 days - or should I say poured through this book! Kirsten put her heart and soul into this very relatable novel for anyone who is or has been married. Marriage takes work and if you don’t put in the work for years and years, can you come back from that and rebuild? Long Enough to Love You explored difficult topics of cheating, divorce, self-worth and more. This is not a book to take lightly - but to learn from and think about long after like I am doing today.

I gave this book 5 stars - It was difficult to put down, made so much sense, provided moments of clarity for me, connected with my life in a way many books don’t and also the author is just a big ball of incredible energy!!! I loved getting to talk to her throughout reading ❤️

Cheers and have a wonderful love day!
I work from home full-time and have to make my off I work from home full-time and have to make my office a place for coziness and focus. I can’t wait to collect art for my big wall above my desk but that is going to take time. My first priority is comfort and feeling joy in this space. Working is not always the most fun (my job is tough) but having a beautiful space to feel proud of helps a lot ❤️💕
