TOP 10 BEST BOOK COVERS

February 5, 2022

According to a 4-Year-Old!

10 BOOKS CHOSEN BY MY 4-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

My daughter asked me if she could play with my books. They consume my office and since I always have one in my hand I’m happy to let her look at them! I asked her which covers were her favorite and she started pulling some out. Her reasons are so sweet and I wanted to share with all of you.

FYI I have not read any of these but they have been living on my shelves. I will link to their Amazon pages in case any of these attract you as well. I will also put the average Goodreads rating and my quick stats. I’ll also share my own thoughts on the covers. Enjoy!

In no particular order…

To Be Honest – by Maggie Ann Martin

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★1/2

QUICK STATS:

  • 293 Pages
  • Contemporary Fiction
  • Medium Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “I like the pink writing and that girl is really pretty.”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: It’s important to say that I’m really glad my daughter chose this cover. I also love the pink writing, the teal background and think the person on the cover is beautiful! Candidly I want to steal her outfit. The back cover has the blurb “news flash: FAT isn’t a bad word” – so it is evident that this book is about body positivity which I love.

The Library Book– by Susan Orlean

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★1/2

QUICK STATS:

  • 310 Pages
  • Nonfiction
  • Medium-Long Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “I love the red it looks like lip stick!”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: I honestly thought this was a fiction novel. This is a little embarrassing to admit but I am glad that she chose this book because now I really want to read it ASAP! The cover is not a giveaway to what is inside the book and I’m okay with that – it’s simple while enticing nevertheless.

Reminders of Him: A Novel– by Colleen Hoover

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 434 Pages
  • Chick Lit Fiction
  • Long Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It has so many birdies and I love the colors!”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: I truly LOVE this cover. Colleen Hoover is one of my absolute favorite authors so it is no surprise that I already have a copy of this brand new book and am surprised I haven’t read it yet to be honest. I must be saving this one for when I really need it – so maybe tomorrow? 🙂

My Not So Perfect Life: A Novel – by Sophie Kinsella

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 320 Pages
  • Romance Fiction
  • Short Chapters (Dual POV)

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “Her shoes are off! That’s so funny!”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: I forgot I had this book. I got it from the clearance section at Goodwill for 99 cents and knowing that Sophie Kinsella is a great author I had to pick it up. It also said the word “witty” on the back cover which is intriguing to me. There are days when I just want a light book with some giggles to be had!

Just My Luck: A Novel by Adele Parks

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★☆

QUICK STATS:

  • 374 Pages
  • Domestic Thriller Fiction
  • Short Chapters (Multiple POV)

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It has a swimming pool! Can we get a swimming pool?”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: No – we cannot get a swimming pool :). This looks like a pretty standard domestic thriller cover. The words “utterly engrossing, brilliant and gripping” adorn the front and back covers which are more eye catching to me than the swimming pool. Now I’ll also be paying attention to see if there is even a pool mentioned in the story.

10 Things I Can See From Here – by Carrie Mac

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★1/2

QUICK STATS:

  • 309 Pages
  • Young Adult
  • Short Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It is SO PINK!”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: I do love the neon ombre pink. I do not remember where I got this book and I know I’ve had it for a while. I sadly don’t see myself getting to this one any time soon. Nothing against the cover – I just don’t read a lot of young adult books any more.

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It: A Mystery (The Finlay Donovan Series Book 1) – by Elle Cosimand

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 355 Pages
  • Mystery Fiction
  • Short-Medium Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It is so pink and she has glasses like you Mommy!”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: Disclaimer: my glasses are not cracked. I do love this cover SO much though. I only know a little bit about this book but this makes me think that it is going to be a cleverly funny mystery which I am all about! I’m hoping to read this in February! Want to read it with me? Comment below!

The Book of Essie: A novel – by Meghan Maclean Weir

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 319 Pages
  • Contemporary Fiction
  • Long Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It has sparkles. She looks sad though but I still like it.”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: She does look sad – I also cannot tell if this is a photograph or a painting. It is haunting. The sparkles are a little confusing – but if my daughter likes them I like them. I know this book has a “cult” element which is one of my favorite things to read and learn about – anyone else? Also – I found this book at the Dollar Tree! It was a score as I had heard about this book and rarely find books at Dollar Tree that interest me or that I have heard of. I’ll start looking harder now!

Reckless Girls: A Novel – by Rachel Hawkins

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 309 Pages
  • “Locked Island” Thriller Fiction
  • Short Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “Yellow is so pretty and I like the flowers.”

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: The more I look at the cover the more I don’t just see a bright and pretty cover with tropical flowers. I see some dark images – the tear in the cloth, the eerie shadows. I love this. A+ Cover!! This was a Book of the Month pick for me and I’ll read it this year!

The Dating Plan – by Sara Desai

AVERAGE GOODREADS RATING ★★★★

QUICK STATS:

  • 340 Pages
  • “Locked Island” Thriller Fiction
  • Short-Medium Chapters

4-Year-Old Cover Opinion: “It’s PURPLE! I like the flowers too. That person fell down I think. “

31-Year-Old Cover Opinion: No one fell down 🙂 I will get to this book someday!

When I travel for work I love to look at what ever When I travel for work I love to look at what everyone else is reading. I’m currently reading The Perfect Marriage and a guy on the ✈️ I was on asked me if it was non fiction or fiction. I told him it’s fiction but it wouldn’t surprise me if this same plot was non fiction somewhere in the world. His answer was.. “i doubt it - there is no such thing as a perfect marriage”. 😆😆 cracked me up!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Shout out to @kirstenpu Happy Valentine’s Day!

Shout out to @kirstenpursell and @emilybookedup as I was their giveaway winner and received a signed copy of Long Enough to Love You along with a bookmark and pen. I read this book in 2 days - or should I say poured through this book! Kirsten put her heart and soul into this very relatable novel for anyone who is or has been married. Marriage takes work and if you don’t put in the work for years and years, can you come back from that and rebuild? Long Enough to Love You explored difficult topics of cheating, divorce, self-worth and more. This is not a book to take lightly - but to learn from and think about long after like I am doing today.

I gave this book 5 stars - It was difficult to put down, made so much sense, provided moments of clarity for me, connected with my life in a way many books don’t and also the author is just a big ball of incredible energy!!! I loved getting to talk to her throughout reading ❤️

Cheers and have a wonderful love day!
